Coffee Confusion

Two small revelations:

First, I read this. "Read" is the improper verb. More like scan and dart eyes around for key words. See infra. While scanning around, I managed to put together that Peet's coffee, which I love, is affiliated with Starbucks. Same owners, same source of beans. Peet's coffee birthed Starbucks! So then I got all worked up and wanted to post about how that made me sad. Peet's coffee, while not some obscure mom and pop store, is still uncommon over here. Some grocery stores carry a small selection of their stuff, but its not the same as getting to sit right by the grinder at the Peet store and taking in a big inhale while they grind that crack up. Its great. And in addition to the fantastic smell that the beans give off, its also great because its not Starbucks and not on every corner catering to twitchy and demanding yups. Long story shorter, I re-read the info on Peet's and learned that I had scanned too fast. Correction! It seems that Peet's and Starbucks had a brief marriage but have since split and gone their separate ways. They remain good friends. Not so bad, I guess.

Second revelation came on the heels of my re-reading. These days, I don't read. I just scan through crap. Get to the point, get to the point.... Driven by a combination of impatience and tired eyes. I don't even bother anymore with forwarded "fun" emails that don't fit on my preview pane. Most of the time, scanning works out just fine. Sometimes, not so much. This will surely come to bite me in the ass one day.

$30 of Fun

My lime green Beach Crocs came in the mail! I'm about a year behind the trend, getting them just before the entirety of my parents' generation obtain them for podiatric therapeutic comfort. Oh well. I love my new lime green shoes.

Law Firm Life loses another person who left the rank and file to pursue something more fulfilling. This post from an acquaintance of an acquaintance. Gotta love the power of blogs. Somehow a whole niche of young, educated, thoughtful and stylish lawyers with cute kids and large law firm jobs has evolved. I can only relate to about 2/5 of their lifestyles, but its always an interesting read.

All my bags are packed

Going to New York today! Hopefully my last trip with S.I. Highlights: see preceding sentence, sushi-dinner-phone-date-with-Rob, gel pillow, possibility of exercise tonight. Lowlights: all other waking hours and meals spent with S.I and whatever psychotic episodes he decides to exhibit. Don't let the imbalance of commas between the highlights and lowlights fool you into thinking this is a fun trip. In fact, to even out the list, the Lowlights should read as such: all, other, waking, hours, and, meals, spent, with, S.I, and, whatever, psychotic, episodes, he, decides, to, exhibit. That's better!

Can't escape it

I've decided to be productive and use this waiting time to pretty up/personalize my blog. Poor blog--looking all boring and stiff. Little did I know what kind of effort is required to personalize a blog. Holy cow, what's with the coding? I thought I left that JAVA/html stuff behind me. That's why I never properly learned it and let the Singaporean on my training team at work do the coding for me! (well...that and I'm lazy and technologically retarded). So, sorry Blog. But this is the best I can do for now. You've got links for friends and new colors. Hooray!

Seriously?

So I'm sitting in the office on a Sunday afternoon. Waiting for the partner to read my 120-page piece of boring crap and give me edits. Awesome.
