Conventional, yes I am

Wandered into Whole Foods last night for some visual and taste bud stimulation. I always feel simultaneously pleased and ashamed whenever I go there. One part of me knows my parents would roll their eyes and say, "Ooh...that place is expensive. Why don't you go to Sandy's?" The other part of me feels like its a chance at retribution. Retribution against who or what, I don't know. But I feel like its a small celebration that I am not intimidated by the fancy things in there, as I used to be. Going down the aisles and picking out some nice olives is like a victory lap.

Anyway, one of the treats I picked up last night were some giant-ass white peaches. When it was time to check out, the checker looked at them and said, "Conventional?" To which I replied, "No, I think they're white peaches." I felt kind of proud--going to a yup/high maintenance grocery store and buying somewhat exotic fruit. Take that, Judgmental Store! I'm an experienced fruit-eater and can handle whatever you offer! But then the checker said, "Oh no. Are these conventional peaches or organic peaches?" "Oh. Umm...conventional." Damn. I think I heard the grandma behind me snicker.
